'Happy new year' for online poker sites

Online poker sites are experiencing huge volumes of traffic already, according to reports from traffic-watch site PokerScout.com.
The website claims that January has been a bumper month so far, with the 7th seeing a record number of real-money players logging on.
More than 95,000 people headed on to the internet to play on one of the numerous casinos available online more than the previous highest recorded figure which was reached just days before.
Online casinos which reported record numbers of visitors this week included OnGame, Everest, International Poker Network and PKR.
Ongame had 10,000 players for the first time, while top online casino PokerStars welcomed a massive 23,000 players on January 6th.
PokerScout.com said that 2008 looks set to be even better than the previous 12 months for online casinos, with traffic levels "at an all-time high".
Milestones predicted by the portal to be reached this year include hitting the 100,000 mark for real-money online players and seeing 10,000 players at all top five sites on the same day.
