'The Magician' joins World Poker Tour
25th February, 2008
Antonio 'the Magician' Esfandiari has been confirmed as the spokesperson for the forthcoming World Poker Tour (WPT) Poker-Made Millionaire tournament.
The event is unique in that it is only open to players who have won at least one million dollars at WPT events, ensuring everyone who sits down at the poker table is a seasoned and accomplished professional.
With personal egos at much at stake as the prize pool, the 84 participating pros will spare no effort to defend their reputations - and the action is set to be all the more entertaining given Esfandiari's unique insight into the game.
Commenting on his new role, he said: "All I ever wanted was to play in a WPT event, let alone win one. To have actually won a few years later and to now become the official spokesperson for a company that did so much for poker and me personally is an honour I hold very dear to me."
The Magician - so-named because his first WPT-linked job was as a magician at the press release party of the first tour - will primarily be the public figurehead for online viewers.
He will be dispensing useful poker advice for fans as well as delivering updates and information from tournament stops via the WPT website.
