'The Master's' missus bags poker title
5th March, 2008
Van Nguyen, wife of Vietnamese-born Men 'The Master' Nguyen, has achieved a feat that has eluded her husband for his entire poker career by winning a World Poker Tour title.
The Master is well known as being one of the most successful pros on the circuit, having a poker player profile that boasts some six World Series of Poker bracelets as well as incredible 57 money finishes.
But despite reaching the final table of a World Poker Tour (WPT) event some four times, the poker magnate has failed to win any main events in the international series - something his wife will no doubt be reminding him of following her victory at the 2008 WPT Celebrity Invitational.
The tournament saw some 445 players battle it out at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles for the sixth year in a row - with a final table that had initially seemed destined to go to the way of seasoned professional Bill Baxter.
However, his unexpected departure along with fellow finalists Elias Madias and Justin Marchand ultimately meant Van Nguyen's had little difficulty in capitalising on her chip lead and bagging the $100,000 (£50,000) top prize.
