APPT looks to kick off next season in Singapore

14th August, 2008

Many in the poker world are already thinking ahead to next year’s season and the organisers of the Asian Pacific Poker Tour have expressed that they hope to begin the relatively new poker tour in Singapore.

The tour’s president and co-founder, Jeffrey Haas, has already begun meeting with Asian Poker Network’s local partners in Singapore, which is a good sign that big things will be happening there sometime next year.

“I would like more Singaporeans to take part in our events,” said Jeffrey Haas, APPT president. “As more Singaporeans play poker, the culture grows, and the events here – both APT and APPT – will be more successful.”

The APPT has a lower buy in than most big-name tournaments, which is why many people believe the tour will attract more players because of the accessible stake of somewhere around $2,500 and $3,000.

This year’s APPT season is beginning in Macau next month and will travel around to various places such as Manila, Auckland, Seoul and Sydney.

“People from all over the world want to visit as tourists, and you see Singaporeans starting to play poker now,” Haas said. “With the integrated resorts and gaming conventions coming here, the government has demonstrated a willingness to accept poker tournaments.”

There is also a tournament in Singapore in the works for later this year, pending it all comes together, is expected to have a buy in of $3,000 with 700 players taking part and gunning for the top prize. After the result of this tournament, next year’s season will be decided.
