Absolute poker players scoop $6.5m

More than $6.5 million (3.2 million) in jackpot winnings were claimed in 2007 by online poker players on website Absolute Poker, it has been claimed.

The online poker operator says that its Bad Beat Jackpot figures show that it has been an "extremely profitable year" for its members.

David Clainer, senior vice president for Absolute Poker, said: "In just six months, we introduced the Bad Beat Jackpot game to US players, handed out over $6.5 million in Bad Beat Jackpot winnings and broke an industry record."

The site's Bad Beat Jackpot has been available since June 22nd and has proved a popular addition.

Figures compiled by the site also show that 39 jackpots that have been won since Absolute Poker launched the Bad Beat Jackpot sharing winnings of $6,581,280.

Bad Beat Jackpot is similar to Texas Hold'em but with players with a hand holding four eights or anything better can win a large part of jackpot.
