Amateur poker player reaches national final
11th December, 2007
A woman from Winchester reached the final of a national poker tournament, despite taking up the game just six months ago.
Liz Snedon managed to reach 15th position out of an original line up of 500 poker players at the Ladbrokespoker.com pub poker championship.
Representing her local – the Golden Lion – Ms Snedon put up an impressive fight against her competitors, many of whom had been playing poker for years.
Speaking to the Hampshire Chronicle News, the senior housing manager said: "I was up against professional players who do it for a living. For me, it's just a bit of fun. I enjoy it."
Tim Hore, who owns the Golden Lion pub, added that he was "thrilled" that Liz had managed to get to the final of the tough competition.
The tournament marked the first of its kind ever held by Ladbrokespoker.com and the grand final, held at the Ladbrokes Casino & Sports Bar in Paddington, was eventually won by a representative from the Royal Oak pub in Kirkdale, Liverpool.
