Barry Greenstein wins Stars of Poker
17th April, 2008
Professional online poker player Barry Greenstein has won one of PokerStar's most high-profile live tournaments, the aptly named Stars of Poker.
California native Greenstein has a decorated history on the poker circuit, having secured no fewer than 31 money finishes - including two bracelets - on the World Series of Poker.
Sitting down at the invitation-only Stars of Poker table, however, the 53-year-old would have known he had a hard slog ahead of him before securing the $50,000 (£25,000) first place prize.
The action kicked off in dramatic style with three of the nine participants - Daniel Negreanu, Noeh Boeken and Dario Minieri - making an early exit.
Following shortly after was Vicky Coren, who suffered an excruciating bad beat when she pitted her A-K against an identical hand from her opponent, only for her rival to hit a flush after the flop.
A pair of Aces made short work of PokerStars qualifier Joe 'bigjoe2003' Michael - leaving in fifth place - with Frenchman Barry Greenstein and German Katja Thater not far behind him.
That just left John Duthie and Barry Greenstein on the poker table - a heads-up battle which ended with a desperate 9-8 all-in by Duthie that predictably foundered to Greenstein's A-K suited.
