Battle of the Planets kicks off at PokerStars
9th April, 2008
Leading online gaming operator PokerStars has unveiled details of its brand new sit-and-go (SNG) tournament leaderboard.
The new competition will determine the winners of the operator's weekly Battle of the Planets series, which is expected to hand out more than $3 million (£1.5 million) each year to gamers.
Everyone who plays online poker with the website will be eligible for the competition, with levels accommodating buy-ins ranging from $2 to $500.
"One of the greatest things about the new SNG TLB is that it gives both casual and high-volume players a shot at winning," said PokerStars blogger Brad Willis.
"PokerStars has devised Low Orbit and High Orbit competitions," he explained. "Low Orbit competitors will compete in blocks of 20 SNGs at a time, while High Orbit players will fight it out in 100-game blocks. The monthly prize pools are divided equally between the two Orbits."
Mr Willis added that as well as earning cash prizes, the highest-ranking players from each division will also progress to an exclusive monthly event with a prize pool of $50,000.
