Betfair signs Imper1um
22nd February, 2008
Leading online gaming house Betfair Poker has bolstered its rankings by signing up-and-coming Canadian pro Sorel Mizzi.
The 21-year-old made a name for himself in online poker circles under the moniker Imper1um - maintaining a consistently high internet position despite periodically flirting with disaster.
In the most infamous incident, Mizzi won $50,000 (£25,000) only to lose the exact same amount in the following week.
But his high-stakes approach eventually garnered results and after cashing online enough times he promptly stormed onto the professional circuit - securing winnings at a World Series of Poker event for the first time last year.
Commenting on his new signing, Mizzi said: "Overall 2007 was a great year for me and by joining Betfair Poker in 2008 I'm getting in with a team which not only has a great reputation but more importantly, it's going places."
The Canadian will be representing the gaming house alongside 19-year-old poker superstar Annette Obrestad, who became the youngest person ever to win a World Series of Poker Europe main event last year.
