Celebs Poker Addictions
5th September, 2007
If you think that poker is a game played by those who are seriously lacking other social arrangements in life, you couldn’t be more wrong on the matter. Our favourite Hollywood stars are constantly spotted placing bets in various hotels and casinos.
Poker has come a long way since 19th century. With no one being able to agree on the origin of the game just yet, it has become completely multicultural and is now considered an important part of life for millions of people in every country in the world. The game can be considered a phenomena, as despite its initial money focus, it has many other characteristics, that make it a very unique experience.
To be able to play the poker game well, one should have a number of abilities that on a larger scale can be considered life skills, due to their multidimensional usage and usefulness. A number of Harvard university students and professors have even decided to make poker part of the extra curriculum for students and organise poker group classes for disadvantaged kids. This is due to the personal qualities, like patience and control that players obtain when practicing playing poker.
Those of us seeking fame and glamour often look at poker as a way of experiencing such status, and this is not surprising, as a huge number of celebrities are spotted placing bets on a regular basis. Paris Hilton was only taught the rules of the game last April, but since that time she has admitted to being extremely into the game: “I'm obsessed with poker. It's my favorite game now." Her and her sister Nicky have even hosted couple of tournaments.
Hilton sisters are not the only glamour girls that are looking for a good hand, as this July the beach girl Pamela Anderson decided to launch her own website, PamelaPoker.com. Despite the fact that Pamela’s poker site has never become anything, but a redirectory URL to Doyles Room, officially owned by Doyle Branson, who used to be called Pamela’s gaming mentor; nevertheless it is hard to deny that Pamela has a huge gambler in her too. Shall we see if she keeps enlarging it?
But its definitely not just girlies who seem to enjoy the poker magic, as both fallen Dogma angels Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were spotted looking pretty puzzled at two different casinos at various times. Some other celebrities that are confirmed to have been seen placing bets are Mena Suvari, Tobey Maguire, Macy Grey and Eva Longoria.
Doesn’t it make you wonder, how many celebrities you could have already played and maybe even won in one of the online poker tournaments or in a simple online poker game at some time in the past? It certainly gives you a clear understanding of the wide spread of the game in terms of classes and nationalities. Everybody is equal in front of the poker table!
