Charity Poker Tournament at EPT Dublin

Dublin is hosting the charity poker event called the Simon Poker Tournament as part of the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT). Already confirmed to be at the tournament is snooker greats Joe Doherty and Steve Davis. The tournament is due for November 3rd at the RDS, Ballsbridge, Dublin. The charity is for the Simon Dublin homeless charity. Last year there were more than 200 players who turned up last year, combined with corporate and private donations they raised near to €50,000.

Organized by a collective of players including Padraig Parkinson, spokesperson for the group, said, “The event was a massive success last year and many thanks to John Duthie from the EPT and Charles Harbourne from the Merrion Casino Club for this wonderful gesture. It’s a great opportunity for players to sit down, have some craic, and play with some of the biggest names in the game without having to take out a bank loan.”

John Duthie, head of the EPT revealed his anticipation, “We’re delighted to be associated with the tournament and I look forward to playing in it myself.” Then he quipped, “I just hope I can avoid Parkinson at the tables and in the bar!” It is expected that European sports stars are expected to attend, including winner and former World Champion Noel Furlong. Entry to the tournament is €300 + €30 (registration fee) €100 of that goes towards the charity and the other €200 goes into the prize pool.

There are several online poker sites that are offering satellite tournaments to the event along with offering their own donations. PokerStars and 888 are offering these tournaments with more expected to follow suite
