Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures

4th September, 2007

We have recently announced that the Bodog was struggling to keep its domain name and the battle was about to begin, while the site was temporary moved to a newBodog URL. You can find that article here. It can now be stated that this huge name in online gambling industry has lost its home, as the courts ruled against the company.

Perhaps this can demonstrate the loss of power of online gambling firms that used to be considered unstoppable business giants, which were quite smoothly floating through the World Wide Web expanding and gaining strength, power and money. The new gambling laws have affected operators in various countries, such as UIGEA and the US, has become the first step towards weakening the online gambling firms and making it much more of a struggle to plain sail on the upcoming river of success.

Such obstacles have been forcing some online poker, casino and other gambling operators to start looking into the international expansion possibilities. One of the options they are considering is Asia, which has not been penetrated by international organizations just yet, and presents some very tempting possibilities. Nevertheless, the massive cultural and other differences that can most certainly determine the success of the first comer are making the companies research and evaluate the risks before getting into such a different market. Read more about this here.

So who will be the first to make this risky step? It looks like the brave one is the desperate one, Bodog! Calvin Ayre at Bodog admitted “We have someone working with us exclusively in Asia to get into the market”. It has to be said that the company definitely doesn’t want to lose its leading position in the market, which is now under a big question mark in the UK, due to the court case result. This step could really put them back on track or make them fall deep with no way back. What can we say? Desperate times call for desperate measures!
