EPT Poland in full swing

13th March, 2008

The European Poker Tour (EPT) Polish Open is in full swing in the capital city Warsaw this week, with some 400 players battling it out for their share of the estimated four million zlotys (£865,000) prize pool.

This year marks only the second time the Warsaw leg of the tour has been staged, with the 2007 Polish Open being hastily arranged after the French Open at Deauville was cancelled at the last minute.

More than a quarter of all the players taking part in the tournament are online qualifiers who earned their seat online by taking part in one of a number of PokerStars satellites.

Last year's EPT Poland winner was Peter Willers Jepsen - who walked away with a 1.2 million zlotys top prize - and in addition to topping that figure, this year's victor will also earn themselves a seat at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo.

The first day of the tournament saw some 200 players going head-to-head - 112 of whom crashed out before the end of the day's proceedings - and a further 200 hopefuls are set to rack up their poker chips today.
