EPT Scandinavian Open starts today

19th February, 2008

One of the final stages of the European Poker Tour (EPT) is getting underway in Copenhagen, Denmark today, with just three legs to go before the tournament series draws to a close.

Some 460 amateur and professional poker players have descended on the Casino Copenhagen, vying for their stake in the nearly £2.5 million prize pool ahead of next month's Grand Final in Monte Carlo.

A strong contingent of 130 players will be representing PokerStars - the world's largest online poker room - many of whom have avoided forking out the 50,000 kroner (£5,000) buy-in through their success in online qualifying satellites.

Among some of Team PokerStar's more notables contenders are 2005 Scandinavian Open winner Noah Boeken, World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event champ Tom McEvoy and two-time WSOP bracelet victor Bill Chen.

The 2007 Open was won by Sweden's Magnus Petersson, who beat off competition from 400 opponents to bag the four million kroner first place.
