Europe to get its own Las Vegas?

6th December, 2007

Developers are set to start building work on Europe's very own Las Vegas casino resort in a desert region of eastern Spain.

According to AFP, the resort will house 32 hotel-casinos and will take more than ten years to build.

It is set to become a haven for gamblers and poker players as well as tourists holidaying in the area, with two theme parks, a racecourse and stadium.

Didier Rancher, a French entrepreneur whose companies will install the theme parks, told the agency: "The renewal of infrastructure, the fame which is coming to Aragon and the quick action of local officials all attracted this project here.

A spokesman for the government of Aragon - the area in which the development will be housed - added: "It is an interesting project, we are dedicated to giving it all the necessary support and we have high hopes, we are forecasting the creation of 30,000 jobs."

Much like its US counterpart, the leisure resort will have themed casinos focusing on historic time periods such as the Egyptians and Ancient Greeks.

Spain is a popular holiday hotspot for poker players and gamblers who flock to the sunny country to enjoy the numerous casinos welcoming high rollers and tourist alike.
