European Ladies Championship returns
2nd April, 2008
The European Ladies Championship will be held for its third year this May 3rd - 4th, organisers Ladbrokes Poker have confirmed.
Just 50 participants can take part in the exclusive tournament, which was originally conceived of as a way of introducing women to live poker but has since become a mainstay of the UK poker scene.
"The European Ladies Championship is the FA Cup of the poker circuit," commented Samantha Alleyne, Ladbrokes Poker PR manager.
She added: "We've got women from all walks of life playing in the tournament including an astrophysicist, housewives, an array of businesswomen and a 19-year-old student. If this does not show that poker is for everyone nothing will."
Ominously for any would-be participants, that 19-year-old student is none other than Annette Obrestad, who last year became the youngest person ever to win the World Series of Poker main event.
Ladbrokes Poker will be holding a series of $250 (£125) buy-in qualifiers for the event, as well pre-qualifier satellites with buy-ins from as little as $5.
