Five Diamond attracting poker pros

30th November, 2007

The Five Diamond Poker tournament in Vegas has kicked off in style today in Vegas at the Bellagio Hotel. The event, which is being held until December 18th, has drawn some of the biggest manes in the game, including Steve Sung, James Van Alstyne and brothers Nick and Michel Binger.

In all, 764 players have entered the sixth annual competition - all events of which are no-limit hold' em - and between them have generated more than $1.25 million in prize-pool cash.

The first event was won by James Cornell who beat Kelly Samson and Jason Potter to the $162,070 (78,000) in prize money.

Las Vegas' Bellagio casino is one of North America's most famous gambling spots and its giant fountain show held in front of the imposing building has become a major attraction.

It was immortalised in 2001 Hollywood flick Ocean's Eleven, when Daniel Ocean (played by George Clooney) and his band of fellow crooks took part in an elaborate heist to steal millions of dollars from the casino vault.
