Hansen takes on all-female table

2nd April, 2008

Poker luminary Gus Hansen will this week take part in the Poker After Dark televised event, where he will be pitted against five of the poker world's most successful female players.

The daring Dane has over $5 million (£2.5 million) in tournament winnings to his name, as well as six previous appearances on the show - including one win - but pundits say his victory is far from certain.

While trigger-happy Hansen has earned a reputation for being entirely unpredictable and so almost impossible to read, he will be facing some much less confusing but arguably more stable players.

Clonie Gowen is likely to prove the stiffest competition, making her fourth appearance on the NBC show after having won it twice and come in fourth place in February 2007 just before Hansen himself.

But Vanessa Rousso is also expected to cause some difficulties at the poker table. In her relatively short career she has already amassed nearly $800,000 in tournament winnings, proving particularly adept at high-stakes World Poker Tour clashes.

The other three participants are JJ Liu and newcomers Erica Schoenberg, Beth Shak.
