Illegal Tournament Busted

2nd October, 2007

The Swedish newspaper The Local yesterday reported that six men had been charged under the Swedish gambling laws after they set up an illegal poker tournament involving 700 people. The tournament players each paid 250 to play in the tournament and the orginizers took 30. The tournament took place in a conference centre in the town of Grebbestad.

If the men are convicted they could face up to four years in prison, but they are all claiming to be innocent. In Sweden you need a permit from authorities to arrange a poker tournament of this magnitude otherwise it is illegal.

The trial will be held in the city of Uddevalla in November.
