Irish poker player wins big
13th February, 2008
An Irish poker player has scooped 47,200 (£35,100) at the Green Joker Poker European Deep Stack Poker Championship.
Dara O'Kearney battled it out at the felt tables to win the match which kicked off on February 6th.
Organisers were said to be impressed with O'Kearney's play as he managed to beat off the likes of top poker players including Poker Millions champ Joe Beevers and Gary Clarke.
Describing the big win, Mike Lacey of Green Joker Poker said: "With nearly half the chips in play a deal was brokered after Joe Beevers was eliminated by Gary Clarke in sixth.
"Dara led from wire to wire - he was the chip leader after day one and day two - and is a very deserving champion."
Mr Lacey also thanked the players that had "made the event such as success" and added that the Championship may need to be held elsewhere next year because it was growing in size so quickly.
