Jennifer Tilly trades Hollywood for cards
12th January, 2008
Academy Award-nominated actress Jennifer Tilly has revealed her novel approach to deciding whether or not to pursue film projects.
Every time the star of Seed of Chucky is offered a new role, she reportedly asks herself "Would I rather be playing poker?" - and according to the Brisbane Times she says her answer is usually "Yes".
Tilly has become well-acquainted with the sport because of her ongoing relationship with professional poker player Phil Laak, who this week arrived at the Aussie Millions Poker Championship in Melbourne.
In fact the Liar Liar actress has become so adept at the game that she has stormed onto the professional circuit herself, winning several events including the Ladies No Limit Texas Hold'em event at the 2005 World Series of Poker (WSOP).
"I've never actually won an Oscar. I've been nominated, but [winning the WSOP bracelet] was a great, great feeling because it was something I accomplished," she told the Brisbane Times
Tilly added that she finds poker so appealing because "all the behaviours that you're not supposed to do in real life - like being aggressive and lying and stealing - [they] all start to come out when you're at the table".
