KFC Hires Poker Players to Help Sell Burgers

28th August, 2007

The fried chicken franchise, KFC, owned by Colonel Harland Sanders, has hired David Williams, Gavin Smith and Paul Wasicka, all professional poker players to star in the outlets commercials. These commercials will be shown on ESPN during the World Series of Poker broadcast, so that’s not surprising that the chosen stars of the commercials are going to be the three very respectable and successful players. The creative idea is quite simple and based around the association principle, as the three professionals will be talking about their ability to “read” players, while enjoying the juicy KFC chicken. We can assume that the message behind the idea as trivial as “If you want to be like them – successful master of poker, then eat KFC and it will be achieved”… Well, it is understandable why they decided to chose poker players, as the growing popularity of the game expands its audience and therefore generates much easier and better access in terms of targeting suitable consumers.
