LA Poker Classic Results

29th February, 2008

Yesterday, the 28th February, saw the final table of the World Poker Tour LA Poker Classic. The day started in dramatic style with Charles Moore beating Phil Ivey, who started as chip leader, down to just 2.6 million in chips, and hurtling himself up to over 3 million.

Game play considered in much the same manner, with aggressive raises and uncharacteristic betting. First to bust out was Phil Hellmuth, followed by Scott Montgomery and then Nam Le. Phil Ivey, on a roll after eliminating the last two, then wasted no time only five hands later, in disposing of Charles Moore, who finished in third place and took home a total prize of $625,630.

Following this was a fantastic heads-up game with Phil Ivey starting on 10.82 million chips and Quinn Do still in the running, but with some work to do, on 2.48 million. Soon into the heads-up encounter Phil Ivey raised until Quinn Do was all in on a two pair draw (A and 8’s). Ivey himself had another Ace and pulled off a full House, with only the river card to come. Only an Ace would have saved Quinn Do, but it didn’t come. A four was turned over and the cards shown leaving Quinn Do with nothing.

Phil Ivey won the tournament and, in turn, completed his aim of becoming a World Poker Tour title holder. The eliminated Quinn Do, finishing in second place, was awarded $909,400. Ivey walked away with $1,596,100 and a seat in the WPT Championship, taking his career tournament winnings to a total of $8,742,652.
