LA Poker Classic starts Thursday

23rd January, 2008

The 2008 LA Poker Classic (LAPC), one of the industry's most popular tournaments, kicks off Thursday January 24th.

Over the course of the next six weeks some 30 separate events will be taking place at the luxurious Commerce Casino in California, expected to draw a turnout of over 13,000 people.

The poker game with the highest buy-in - $10,000 (£5,100) - is predictably the World Poker Tour Championship, but other smaller tournaments are also running with entry prices from as little as $335.

And with a predicted total prize pool of nearly $17 million, it should come as no surprise that the poker world is abuzz with anticipation about how events will pan out over the coming weeks.

Among the more familiar games slated for the tournament are no-limit and limit Texas Hold'Em, Omaha Hi-Lo, Stud and Stud Hi/lo - but a range of turbo and shootout events will also be adding some excitement to the mix this year.

The LAPC will come to a close on March 1st with a special televised celebrity invitational poker event.
