Latin American poker tour planned
14th December, 2007
Details have been released about the inaugural Latin American Poker Tour, due to be held concurrently across eight countries in South America.
Tournaments will be held in Puerto Rico, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica - with poker players from around the world eligible to win seats via online and local tournaments.
Marketing company Vega Promotional Systems - which is running the event - had also opened negotiations with various professional poker players in a bid to bring them on board as hosts.
Commenting on the new tournament, Vega chief executive Michael Herron said No Limit Tex Hold'em has become increasingly popular in South America and that the time is right for the continent to stage its own tournament.
"We've all seen the success that other tours like the World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour have enjoyed and we feel that by utilizing our existing contacts in Latin America, we can produce a first class tournament that players from all over the world … will want to participate in."
All programming will be produced and owned by Vega and the company is currently in discussions with major cable providers over the right to sell its own advertising during the programmes.
