Lincoln cabbie scoops £15k jackpot

6th December, 2007

An amateur poker player has won £15,000 during a two-day tournament – a year after walking away with £30,000 at another contest.

Taxi firm owner Steve Reed beat off some of Europe's top poker players to win the cash prize, the Lincoln Echo reports.

The game was played at the newly opened Dusk Till Dawn poker room – the first of its kind in the UK.

Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Reed said that it was a "tough match" which continued late into the night on both days.

"In the end it was down to a heads-up, which is one-on-one, with me and a Scandinavian guy," he said.

"They normally last about ten to 15 minutes. Ours went on for three hours - it was pretty tense."

The big win comes just 12 months after the 43-year-old scooped £30,000 at the Blue Square Poker Six Tournament held in Bolton's Grosvenor Casino.

Nottingham's Dusk Till Dawn club finally opened its doors for business last week after two years of wrangling over licensing issues and rival casinos – who wanted to delay the launch.
