Londoner Wins Irish Poker Open!

7th April, 2010

The organizers didn’t disappoint at this year’s Paddy Power Irish open which is one of the most hotly anticipated tournaments of the year. 708 players turned up to make is a very special occasion at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin. A host of stars attended the event including the likes of Christ Johansson who was last year’s winner plus Neil Channing, Brian Townsend and Dan Harrington.

There were four days of action in order to see who of the final nine would win the €600,000 reward for becoming champion.

The finalists included veteran cash game player, Ben Roberts and young gun James Mitchell who is Neil Channing’s Black belt poker protégé. James watched as his opponents fell before him, who included Rob Sherwood who was Paddy Power’s sole survivor which meant he picked up an additional €100,000 bonus in addition to the €163,300 he won for finishing fourth.

James Mitchell’s opponent, Paul Carr started the game with the upper hand making the Londoner go all in, trailing behind. However an ace saved Mitchell and he never looked back with a huge momentum eventually calling Carr’s bluff and winning him the title.

A clearly moved James Mitchell thanked the crowd for their huge support and took home his biggest live poker win to date.
