Massive overlay in Bodog $100k tourney

26th March, 2008

Online poker operator Bodog pumped a massive $39,200 (£19,700) into its $100K Guaranteed tournament on Sunday, it has been confirmed.

Analysts had questioned why the gaming website had gone ahead with the weekly tournament on Easter Sunday - a day when activity on gambling websites traditionally falls by as much as 80 per cent.

And with just 603 players joining the tournament and fronting the $100 buy-in, that left a shortfall of nearly $40,000 which Bodog was obliged to make up in order to meet the minimum prize pool.

The overlay was just $100 less than the combined value of the first and second cash prizes, which went to MONSTER_DONG ($25,000) and RonnDough ($14,300) respectively.

The 603-player field is markedly down on last week's 720-player field and is just slightly up on the 596 entrants to the Bodog Poker Open Texas Hold'Em main event.

That event had a much larger buy-in in $470+30 and received a $25,000 boost to the prize pool, which reached $305,000 in total.
