Montel Williams in European poker debut
29th March, 2008
Montel Williams is to make his European poker debut at the six-way Party Poker Nations Cup in Cardiff, it has been confirmed.
The event will be running April 7th to 10th and will mark the first major appearance in Europe by Williams, who stormed onto the professional circuit at the 2007 World Series of Poker.
The talk-show host started playing poker in the Navy but has more recently earned plaudits for his steadfast playing style. He also hosts regular charity poker games in aid of Multiple Sclerosis, of which he is a sufferer.
"I am thrilled and honoured that I have been invited to be a part of Team USA for the Poker Nations Cup," pokerlistings.com quoted Williams as saying.
"My teammates are extraordinary as I have played against many of them in the past year and now look forward to teaming up with them in our quest to defeat poker pros from around the globe."
He will be joined by fellow Americans Chad Brown, Freddy Deeb and Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson. The other nationalities being represented are Great Britain, Ireland, Sweden, Holland, Germany and the US.
The Party Poker Nations Cup boasts a prize pool of $280,000 (£140,000), which includes $100,000 from the gaming operator.
