Negreanu leads WSOPE main event

29th September, 2008

After the World Series of Poker Europe had already awarded three new gold bracelets in the first three events, there is only one more up for grabs and it happens to be the most prestigious one of the series of tournaments.

Right now it is Daniel Negreau who leads that pack, but there is still a lot of poker to be played as the tournament will not find its winner until Thursday. Each player started with 20,000 in chips and Negreanu has already built that up to more than 150,000.

The main event tournament at the WSOPE is a 10,000 buy in no limit holdem tournament. It began with 363 and will pay out only the top 36 players, which is roughly the top 10 per cent of the field.

Negreanu has had a really good WSOPE so far, cashing in the first two events, the 1,500 buy in no limit holdem tournament and the 2,500 HORSE tournament. He then busted out of the 5000 pot limit Omaha tournament and said that he was rather relieved to be able to get some rest after going so deep in back-to-back tournaments.

He said that he would use the time to prepare, mentally and physically, for the main event, which would be the ultimate ending for such a great run so far. At this moment, the safe bet would be on Kid Poker making the final table and perhaps even taking home the bracelet.

The first-place finisher in the tournament will receive more than 850,000 for their efforts, which is by far the biggest event at this years WSOPE. The next biggest payout was from the third event, which paid out first place more than 218,000.
