John Donnelly from Ireland beat out 770 players in the Poker Pro Europe freeroll and then took his seat against six rivals from respected European poker magazines. He then went on to with the £14,000 first prize. After seven hours of play at the final table, Donnelly defeated Card Player Magazine’s Krzysztof Zajac from Poland and won entry to the 3 million Euro Guaranteed Irish Open 2008 along with the European Poker Tour events in Prague and Copenhagen.

The Battle of the Mags at paddypowerpoker.com comprised a series of tournaments designed to find the most skilled poker player from the readership of Europe’s top poker magazines. The final was comprised of players from across Europe who won their respective magazine’s exclusive multi-table tournament on paddypowerpoker.com .

Will Jordan, spokesman for the Poker Pro Europe, said, “We’re thrilled for both John and the success of the promotion. We brought 770 players to paddypowerpoker and got a champion out of it. It’s a testament to the power of promotions that a player can freeroll his way to £14,000...”

Donnelly himself was quite excited to be the tournament winner. “It’s a dream to play at the Irish Open. I can’t wait to pit my wits against some of the biggest names in world poker!” Donnelly exclaimed.

The final will air on SKY Channel 843 on the 14th of December.
