New Poker Film to be Made
29th July, 2008
Poker has had its fair share of Hollywood moments including Casino, Casino Royal, Deal and Run, but none have been specifically based on pokers most famous tournament, the world series of poker (WSOP). Thats all about to change, as poker will once again be the centre of the plot for a film directed by Gil Cates. Cates is a self confessed poker fan and is planning to direct a film named "Pass the Sugar". The film will be based on the incredible story of the 2005 WSOP main event when Joe Hachem from Lebanon won the tournament.
The film will be produced by Tom Hachem, Joe's brother, who deals with all his brother business and acts as a general agent/manager. Cate's recent film pieces have failed but he will be determined to get this one right. Based on a true story, the film will follow the events of Joe Hachem winning the world famous WSOP event. Hachem was relatively unheard of before his extraordinary performance in Las Vegas, and only took a chip lead with three players left, pulling off a surprise victory beating Steve Dannenmann in the final.
The film is named "Pass the Sugar" because of Hachem's famous catch phrase after winning a big pot in the 2005 WSOP main event. He shouted, "pass the sugar!", in reference to the chips when revealing his winning hand. The film is being financed by an Australian production company called Stack Exchange and will hopefully show the drama excitement and humor involved in the WSOP.
