Obrestad Makes Much Anticipated Appearance At WSOP!

5th May, 2010

In the WSOP which has thousands of participants each year, there has never been such attention to a single players debut at the tables; except for Annette Obrestad.

Annette is a 21 year old poker pro from Norway and has established herself as one of the most feared players in Europe in the last three years. However, she has never been able to showcase her poker talents on the worlds largest stage, The World Series of Poker due to US age restrictions on gambling. This will all change this year when the WSOP kicks off on Friday 28th May.

"We'll see what happens," Obrestad said. "I'm hoping to play in as many tournaments as possible and hopefully do good in a few."

At the tender age of 18 years old she won the WSOPE main event in 2007, meaning that she walked away with $2.1million which was the largest payout ever for a female in the history of tournament poker and also became the youngest person ever to win a WSOPE bracelet.

"She may have kicked off the women and youth trailblazing poker tournament winning streak that has occurred," said Seth Palansky, WSOP spokesman.

Although that victory isnt her only big accomplishment, she began playing online illegal at just 15 and as she couldnt deposit any money she played in free tournaments and made some modest cash which she turned into over $1million. This means that Obrestad has never had to play with her own money. "I've always been a winning player," Obrestad said. "I'm pretty proud of that."

With the steady rise in online poker, professional 21 year old players debut in the WSOP each year, for example last years winner Joe Cada for example. But none of these appearances have had as much anticipation attached as that of Obrestads.

"I really don't know how to prepare because I've never been here and done that," Obrestad said. I'm just going to have to see what happens."
