Online casinos rally behind Africa cause
21st February, 2008
A school in Malawi has received a new funding pledge from Online Gambling Insider, the latest online casino to donate money to the cause.
SlotLand.com funded construction of the school two years ago after being approached by a delegate of aid workers who were attempting to drum up support for community outreach programmes in the country.
Like many African nations Malawi has been hard hit by the HIV/Aids epidemic, with an estimated 600,000 children left orphaned by the disease.
Malnourishment and illiteracy are at record-high levels in the country, but with the backing of SlotLand.com local NGOs were able to build the Umodzi-Mbame School in 2005 - and Online Gambling Insider has now lent its support to the project with a $500 (£250) donation.
"When Slotland initially announced the building of the school we ran the story on our news network but we felt that a project such as this needs every little bit of support it can get," commented a spokesman for the casino gambling portal. "To see the dedication of the SlotLand team, and the amazing results they have achieved in what is a challenging environment, deserves the utmost respect."
Online Gambling Insider is encouraging other online casino gambling sites to make a similar donation via www.help-malawi-children-charity.org.
