Owner of a poker club gets sentenced for 16 years

15th December, 2009

Jeffrey Castardi, an American who founded a poker club known as Gin Rummy Club, watched it double into a developed crime operation but has finally been sentenced to 16 years in prison.

The 48 year old started an illegal gambling company which attracted the likes of lawyers, doctors and well paid business men whom he then trapped financially, before turning his company into a giant loan-sharking and money laundering company!

Investigation into the case has revealed the extent to which Castardi was breaking the law and the significant amount of money that he generated from the illegal business. The gambling operation was found for using a ‘complex, persistent and intimidating system’ of collecting money from businesses and bank accounts. In addition, the founder and his side kicks were accused of running an illegal professional gambling business, loan sharking, money laundering, tax evasion, theft, violating the state of law and unlawful debt collection.

The Office of the Attorney General emphasized, “Mr.Castardi’s sentence should underline that we will vigorously pursue anyone who violates Colorado’s organized crime laws.”

Castardi pleaded guilty in October and has since had his channels that he would store cash in, including two restaurants, shut down. It was reported by investigators, “He was incredibly lucky to get away with his million pound operations for so long but everything always gets revealed eventually and now he will pay his time for the damage he has caused.”
