Paddy Poker prepares for Finnish invasion
15th January, 2008
Popular online poker website Paddy Power is warning its predominantly Irish players to prepare for an influx of Finns this summer.
In conjunction with Poker Magazine Finland and Poker-lehti, Ireland's largest online poker room has arranged for a clash of cultures as Irish and Finnish players face off at a live tournament in Dublin.
With both 30-man teams being drawn from website qualifiers, entry for the competition is open to all who play poker online via Paddy Power Poker.
The final will be held in the Irish capital on May 17th and will boast a prize pool of some $18,000 (£9,200). Online satellites to earn a place at the table are running every Sunday at 20:00 BST with $15 rebuys.
"We don't have a great record of dispelling invaders from these shores," quipped a Paddy Power spokesman. "But Team Paddy will be ready for the Finns this time - and while we will be welcoming them with one hand, we will be trying to crack their aces with the other!"
Finns are notoriously aggressive players and their country has produced such world-class poker figures as Patric Antonius and Juha Helpi.
