Party Poker Nations Cup gets underway

9th April, 2008

The third annual Party Poker Nations Cup got underway this week, with nationals from all over Europe and America vying to come up trumps for their country.

Germany are currently the favourites to win with PartyBets offering odds of 3-1, but stiff competition is also expected from the UK, the US, Ireland, Sweden and the Netherlands.

"The German team was amongst the outsiders when the market first went up but the money has just kept coming for Michael Keiner's side and their odds have been cut in half from 6/1 to 3/1," commented a PartyBets spokesman.

"Defending champions Sweden have been friendless in the market and were 5/1 outsiders at the off, drifting from being the initial 3/1 favourites to win."

Five of the six-man teams include one Party Poker VIP online qualifier, while America which has a filled its final seat with talkshow host Montel Williams due to laws banning online poker in that country.

The tournament encompasses six heats, with individual winners earning $20,000 (£10,000) while a grand prize of $100,000 will be dished out to the team that earns the highest aggregate score.
