Party Poker Premier League returns
27th March, 2008
Leading online gaming operator Party Poker re-launched its popular Premier League televised poker event this week.
Channel 4 broadcast the first episode of the 15-week long series at 00:10 BST on Wednesday (March 26th), heralding the return of one of the UK's most popular TV poker events.
The Matchroom Sport-developed programme features nine players from last season's event - notably including 'poker brat' Phil Hellmuth - as well as including some established new poker player profiles such as Marcel Luske and Annie Duke.
The structure of the tournament will see 12 pros battle it out six times during the preliminary stages, with the four strongest performers progressing on to the final table and the four subsequent runners-up competing in heads-up matches for the final two seats.
With each player buying-in for a whopping $60,000 (£30,000) - and Party Poker laying on an extra $280,000 - the overall prize pool for the league will be a cool million dollars.
That figure is twice the size of last year's kitty, which was won by up-and-coming Finnish professional Juha Helppi.
