Party Poker Sign Up F1 Driver
12th October, 2009
Well known F1 driver, Giancarlo Fisichella has signed a deal with Party Poker to be their Italian representative. Party Poker are putting together the beginnings of a ‘pro’ poker team using a grassroots approach rather than finding notable names and established poker stars to represent them.
The Italian driver doesn’t really fit into this group as he’s more famous for his F1 driving and being a stand in for Ferrari’s Felipe Massa.
However, Giancarlo is mainly going to be Party’s representative in Italy due to legal reasons but is a great fit for the country’s media strategy. Party has yet again shown that they can find the best ways of promoting their brand making them one of the most recognized online gaming companies.
Fisichella represented Party Poker in June when Sports challenge IV was filmed. Representatives from the gaming company saw potential in developing a relationship with the driver. If he is as fearless on the tables as when he’s on the tracks then he will be a reckless opponent not to be reckoned with!
Of late a few sports stars have had a turn at the tables in live poker tournaments including: footballer Teddy Sheringham, tennis star Boris Becker, hockey legend Mat Sundin, power boat racer Sami Sello , hockey player Fatima Moreira de Melo and rugby star Sebastien Chabeal.
One icon which we’re sure will cause a stir is swimming sensation Michael Phelps if he ever signs a contract with the brand, which is sure to make a splash if it happens! The swimmer is known to have a deep interest in poker and so it’s likely he’ll be wearing a pro shirt in coming years.
