Party Poker Sports Stars Challenge heats up

22nd February, 2008

Snooker legend Steve Davis and TV presenter Kara Scott among six sports professionals to have made their way to the final table at the Party Poker Sports Stars Challenge.

The £1,000 buy-in annual tournament is now in its third year and has so far witnessed 30 footballers, rugby players, darts stars, cricketers and presenters sent packing in a series of five heats.

Having already made strides in the poker world after reaching the final table of last year's PartyPoker Women's World Open, Scott was the first person to secure a place on the final table - toppling TV rivals that included Sky Sports commentator Chris Kamara.

Next up the darts heat saw Wayne Mardle ward off Holland's Michael Van Gerwen in an excruciating badbeat - with the Dutchman's turn-card ace pair stumbling at the last hurdle to an inside straight on the river.

Steve Davis dominated the snooker heat - though not without being given a run for his money by Dennis Taylor - while Ed Giddins secured the top cricketer spot and former Manchester United player Norman Whiteside won at the footballer's heat.

The final poker game will be held at 3 Mills Studio in London, with the first-place cash prize running to a cool £20,000.
