Phil Ivey now third in POY rankings

6th March, 2008

Five-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Phil Ivey has moved up to third place in the pokerlistings.com Player of the Year (POY) rankings.

Ivey has long been regarded as one of the world's best poker players, but the Full Tilt-sponsored pro's focus on lucrative cash games as opposed to point-winning tournaments has until now kept him out of the top ten.

In just the first two months of the year, Ivey has succeeded in bagging an incredible $1,721,100 (£863,000) on the poker table - a substantial proportion of which was garnered from his high-profile online battles with seda1.

Having notched up a swathe of impressive performances - most notably his win at the World Poker Tour (WPT) LA Classic - the American now has exactly 2000 points, just 436 behind number-one player Men 'The Master' Nguyen.

Canadian Mike McDonald is in second place with 2,140 points, while on the Ladies POY rankings Marisol Banuelos is currently in first place.

The pokerlistings.com POY rankings are so far based on the results of some 13 events, including the European Poker Tour Scandinavian Open, the 2008 National Heads-Up Poker Championship and the WPT Invitational.
