Poker game proves too hot to handle

11th March, 2008

A game of poker may have become too intense for two men in Tuscaloosa, after reports the sit-down turned nasty.

Shots were fired, as two individuals at University Manor Apartments were said to have been injured, reports TuscaloosaNews.com.

While poker may have been an innocent victim - with police not ruling out other sources for the dispute - it is thought that tensions flared among the poker players and shots were fired during or after a game.

One of those shot remains in intensive care, Captain Loyd Baker, commander of the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit, told the site, while efforts to find another man who had fled were ongoing.

"Right now we’re interviewing witnesses and attempting to locate the other victim," Captain Baker revealed.

Poker has become a firm favourite on both sides of the Atlantic, with the game enjoying a particular boom in the last decade after being popularised through television coverage and word-of-mouth.
