Poker player makes run at world record

19th August, 2008

A poker player is setting his sights on being the new world record holder for the longest poker session in history, which currently stands at 72 hours and two minutes. His goal will be to destroy the current record by playing poker for 100 hours straight.

Poker player Dave Cain, of Rufford Green, Boultham, Lincoln, has decided to take on this challenge and is doing it in the name of charity as well. His goal is to raise £10,000 for charities with his poker skills – and apparently he’s taking on anyone who wants to play.

“I will look to play about one person per hour and more than 100 people in total,” Cain said. “I think there will be no problems. I am a fit guy and I have done things like this in the past. I do not think 100 hours is beyond my reach at all.”

The record was set after a marathon session of poker in 2004 when Larry Olmsted, an American, played poker for more than 72 hours straight, which at the time seemed like a remarkable feat.

Cain’s marathon poke session, which could result in a new world record, will take place at the University of Lincoln at the Library Bar in Campus Way. He has recently been approved by Guinness World Records and everything is set for his run at a world record.
