Poker pros raise $20k for cancer charity
19th March, 2008
A number of professional poker players have raised almost $20,000 (£10,000) for a children's cancer charity.
Led by World Series of Poker winner Todd Brunson, the pros racked up last weekend in the Bay Area of San Francisco in an effort to raise money for Camp Okizu, a local retreat for children with cancer.
Other notable players included Roy "the Oracle" Winston, Lane "Back-to-Back" Flack and Hoyt Corkins, all of whom contributed to the nearly $20,000 strong pot that had been reached by the end of the night.
The tournament was sponsored by a number of leading online poker rooms including Doyles Room, Full Tilt and Ultimate Bet - and had a distinctly urban feel having been held in a warehouse furnished with some 20 poker tables and a bar.
A meet-and-greet was also held for fans who turned up to offer their support for the event, with a limited number of guests being invited into the tournament area to watch the action unfold.
Doug Fowler was crowned the ultimate winner, taking home the modest first-prize of a weekend vacation with Todd Brunson.
