Poker site launches appeal for African aid
20th December, 2007
Online poker firm Slotland.com has launched a new website to raise funds for the school and community centre it built in Malawi.
Currently, the firm's slots and video poker site helps to fund the project but the new site will now allow people who do not want to partake in gambling to make a personal donation.
It is hoped that the money raised will go towards improving facilities at the school which educates Malawian youngsters about, among other issues, Aids.
Slotland.com's new website will also inform the public about how the funds will also reach neighbouring villages in need - which have started similar projects of their own after being inspired by the original scheme.
Mobile games manager at the firm Martin Smith said: "We've been reporting the progress of the project to our players for two years.
"So many people have told us how proud they are of what we're doing that we provided this fundraising website to give them an opportunity to get more involved and to make personal donations."
