Poker trophy dedicated to Chip
13th December, 2007
Organisers of the H.O.R.S.E. World Championship have named a trophy after the late poker pro David "Chip" Reese, who died last week in his Las Vegas home.
Chip Reese, widely believed to be one of the best all-round poker playersever to have picked up cards, won the debut H.O.R.S.E. event at the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP).
From next year onwards, all winners of the competition, which is the biggest buy-in event ($50,000) of the entire series, will be presented with a trophy named after Reese, to commemorate the passing of one of poker's true greats.
"As a tribute to this great player who embodied the very best of our game, next year's $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. World Championship will be played in Chip's honor and memory," said Jeffrey Pollack, commissioner of the World Series of Poker. "And the winner will receive the David 'Chip' Reese Award as well as a WSOP bracelet, to commemorate his achievement."
Pollack also noted that the WSOP 2008 schedule will include eight $10,000 dollar buy-in World Championship events and a total of 55 poker events throughout the year.
Beyond being the biggest buy-in event, the H.O.R.S.E. World Championship demands that players must be well versed in hold'em, Omaha, razz, seven-card stud and seven-card stud eight-or-better to have any chance of winning.
