PokerListings.com seeking Player of the Year

21st January, 2008

PokerListings.com has begun tracking tournaments around the world in a bid to ultimately find the 2008 Player of the Year.

The poker community website has announced it will monitor games from all over the globe regardless of their buy-in, though tournaments must have a prize pool of more than $150,000 (£77,000) to be eligible.

For such competitions, the final three tables will be given points while the final nine will earn a 'final-table appearance' mark, tallied up alongside their results and adjusted to eight for Stud and mixed-game events.

The top 27 cashers in each tournament will walk away with points, ranging from 320 for first place down to a single mark for 27th. In the event that fewer than 27 people receive winnings then point allocation will only apply to the cash-out list.

Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier currently leads the pack having earned a European Poker Tour championship bracelet the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, but he is joined by Howard Lederer's following his victory in the $100,000 buy-in poker game at the Aussie Millions.

In the women's rankings, meanwhile, Jennifer Golin currently has the top spot thanks to her come-back victory in the lady's World Series of Poker Championship in Nashville.
