PokerStars defies Easter slump
27th March, 2008
PokerStars has defied the traditional slump in online poker activity over the Easter holidays by hosting one of its busiest weekends ever.
While competitor Bodog Poker was left having to stump up a massive $40,000 (£20,000) overlay for its $100K Guaranteed tournament due to low turnout, action over at PokerStars seemed unaffected by last weekend's festivities.
Among the operator's most popular tournaments was the Sunday Warm-up, which saw poker pro Hevad Khan fend off over 2,500 competitors to bag a first-place cash prize of over $95,000.
Poker table action at the PokerStars Sunday Million also attracted a great deal of interest, with Canadian online gamer Tsipor walking away $147,561 better off after making a three-way deal with underdogs Maluko0 and Djemps.
Finally, the operator's popular regular $5,200 freezeout event ended in another deal between competitors, this time with online players ADZ124 and bigegypt agreeing on respective $46,000 and $54,000 prizes.
According to onlinecasinosphere.com, online gambling activity typically falls by as much as 80 per cent on Easter Sunday.
