Popular US poker show to be axed
16th May, 2008
TV executives are poised to pull the plug on one of America's most popular poker shows, industry blogs have claimed.
WickedChops, Pokerati and a number of other websites have claimed that the US Game Show Network is preparing to axe High Stakes Poker following a change in the broadcaster's management.
Co-host AJ Benza reportedly told Pokerati: "Far as Gabe and I know
the show isn't coming back.
"Apparently
the network is going to go in a different direction and that ain't good news for our show, especially since we skew a higher-aged audience.
"Never mind that we're the network's number-one show. Still and all, no one calls us from the network to say squat
If you ask me
They're treating us like s***. All we ever did was make them a bunch of money."
The popular TV programme features regular tournaments with some of the top poker players on the circuit battling it for minimum prize pools of $100,000 (£50,000).
It kicked off in 2006 and has run for four seasons, each of which featured 13 episodes culminating in a grand final.
