Second Macau casino to embrace Texas Hold'em poker

22nd May, 2008

A casino in Macau will tomorrow (May 22nd) become the second in the Chinese region to have an area dedicated to Texas Hold'em poker.

The room will be located on the on the mezzanine level of the Grand Waldo casino and will have six cash tables and space for 110 tournament players, the Macau Daily Times reports.

There will be poker tournaments every weekend, which will begin on Thursdays and will be free to enter.

The tournaments are being made possible thanks to a collaboration between the Grand Waldo and online poker site PokerStars. They are being run in the lead up to the Macau leg of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APTA), which is due to take place in September.

President Jeffrey Haas told the newspaper that the APTA is hoping that Macau will eventually become the centre for poker in Asia.

"We have had a lot of interest from Hong Kong and also from players in Guangzhou, Zhuhai and locally in Macau. We promote the game and bring them in and as they get eliminated they go and play at the cash tables," he said.

The first casino to embrace Texas Hold'em poker in Macau was the Grand Lisboa in January this year.
